Optimistic Mondays – First Pants, then Shoes!

A few years ago my office had a "Far Side" calendar. To the left, I found a cute little "reenactment" of my favorite cartoon.

It always made me laugh. Now, I still laugh, but it's more of a reminder. Things need to be done in order. First we have to get out of bed, and then we tackle our day. Once we're up and about, we need to set priorities, and follow the order.

We have to learn to play the piano before we can perform a concert.

We have to learn the rules of writing, before we will be published.

We have to take time to really get to know someone, before we can count them among our dearest friends.

How embarrassing it is to jump ahead of things, putting our shoes on first, and entirely forget about our pants. I've done it before. Figuratively, of course! I wouldn't recommend it.

Happy Monday!

I feel better. I've been trying to ignore the little devil on my shoulder that tells me "shoes first!" No, no. It's pants. Thanks for the validation, Kim. :)

Love the analogy. I won't tell you how many times I tried as a kid to get my pants on after my shoes. But it never works. Even with sweat pants. :)

Your post says a lot. And sometimes accomplishing something well is as simple as that, moving through the sequence of activities properly, and then we're there!

Love this, Kim! Talking about something similar with the hubby last night. My son, 12, is starting art lessons and I was concerned that he wouldn't be able to pursue his own artistic style. My hubby pointed out that for a pianist to improvise, they must learn the basics first. Same for art. Same for writing.
